Goodbye, Plurk!
A minute ago, I formally bid goodbye to my short-lived Plurk.com account. My account only lasted for two days.
I realized that social networking sites are not really for antisocial people like me (of course. hehe).
Plurk is just another nonsense social networking site. You are obliged to update everyone of what you are doing to reach that stupid Nirvana stage. And then what?
Now, I’m tempted to delete my (nth) blog.

Snubbed
What could be more embarrassing than this?
Anyway, Bush’s staunch supporter must be remorseful at this point.

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna – A militant labor leader was almost hit by bullets when two unidentified armed men shot his residence several times Thursday night in Riverside, Calamba City at 9:30 p.m., a labor group reported Friday morning.
The labor leader, identified as Arnold Cerdo, is a staff member of the Cabuyao Workers Alliance.
According to Virgilio Colandog, member of Pagkakaisa ng mga Manggagawa sa Timog Katagalugan-Kilusang Mayo Uno, two men wearing bonnets, suspected to be military agents, attempted to shoot Cerdo and his brother-in-law, Juanito Dacillo.
Fortunately, they (Cerdo and Dacillo) immediately saw the gunmen so they were able to evade the shots,” he added.
The two unidentified men with bonnets were reportedly riding a motorcycle, the usual style of perpetrators of political killings in the country, Colandog added.
Cerdo and Dacillo temporarily transferred into another house given the threats, Colandog said in a phone interview.
Prior to this incident, four Southern Tagalog activists were jailed in Calapan.
They were accused of multiple counts of murder and frustrated murder in an ambush on March 3, 2006.
Of the 72 names identified by the police, at least 30 are militant leaders.
Cerdo, however, is not included in the list.
In Cavite, a labor leader was arrested by the police Thursday morning in Barangay Manggahan, General Trias.
Arnaldo Seminiano, organizer of the militant Ilaw-Buklod Manggagawa (IBM), was reportedly arrested by four policemen, two of whom were not in uniform, at around 10 a.m. Thursday.
He was joined by another organizer of IBM, Sonny Gum-o, who was released after the police failed to present a warrant of arrest.
Their personal belongings like flash disks, cell phones and bags were reportedly confiscated by the police.
Seminiano was brought to Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna, for interrogation on Thursday.
His name is among the 72 names that appeared in the charge sheet in connection with the ambush of government troops on March 3, 2006, in Puerto Galera.
The ambush was reportedly staged by communist New People’s Army rebels.

Binabayaran ako ng US $5.56/hour (tax-free).

I Hate Fame
Haay. Sobrang natatakot ako (read: sarcasm).

Falling Behind
At this moment, I am wondering if attending official family reunions would really be fun.
For 21 years, I never had an idea on what the Lapitan clan does every time a reunion is set. I remember we would receive invitations every year for this so-called family reunion that ceased several years back for some reasons I’m not interested of knowing.
Our family is close only to our immediate relatives. I don’t know my second- and third-degree cousins, except if we are introduced by chance. Or sometimes, I just assume that a classmate is a relative since he/she bears the same surname.
In Los Baños, my surname appears to be as common as my name. Here, you would find Lapitan’s Bakery, Lapitan’s Meatshop, Lapitan’s Lechon and much more. There’s a Lapitan whatever almost everywhere.
In conversations with UPLB professors, town officials, and other professionals, they would often ask, “Are you related with Dr. Lapitan?” “Are you the daughter of Prof. Lapitan?” “Do you know Sir Lapitan of IRRI (International Rice Research Institute)?” I’m not exaggerating, but I think there have been almost a hundred instances when I was asked if I know certain persons with the same surname as mine. Unfortunately, I don’t know them all.
However, I am aware that many of our relatives are categorically successful in their respective fields.
I have this assumption that a family reunion is just synonymous to a payabangan session.
I wish my mom could tell them “Hey! Karen took Math 11 only once! Some of her friends took that twice!” or “Karen got 1.0 in her PE (Physical Education) class! That’s how bright my daughter is.” or better yet, “Karen can’t get enough of her Statistics class. She enjoyed it so much! So she decided to take that subject twice.” Bwahahahahaha.
***
On the Elec clan, meanwhile…
One of my cousins just arrived from Singapore after presenting her medical research, funded by a top pharmaceutical company. For two years now, she has been busy acting as a pediatrician slash oncologist for a public hospital in Manila while attending to her other medical commitments. She is now married to a businessman-lawyer-doctor (Oo. Peste.)
Another cousin is a few months away in finishing his degree in Political Science (under the famous Fullbright Scholarship Program) in a top university in California. He is now working on his thesis. Isa pang peste. A few months ago, he asked me if I’m interested to study under Fullbright so he could help. Tinawanan ko lang siya. Bwahahahahaha. Parang nakakainsulto. Hehe.
***
Now, I realized that I have been giving my surname (and middle name) a disgrace.
Unfinished degree.
Unfinished thesis.
Absolutely, I’m FALLING BEHIND everyone. But at the back of my mind, I really don’t care.
I’m falling behind Marian Rivera, that’s my only concern. Ahahahahaha.
